Midnight Sessions

Midnight Sessions is an invitation to step into the liminal space where sound, movement, and light dissolve their boundaries.
In this piece I debut my own guitar compositions while a ballet dancer responds in real time - musicians will rise from the audience and join the improvisation,

Projection art built in a parametric design software bathes the space in shifting geometry and color,
enveloping both performers and audience.

This work embraces the spirit of experimentation and collaboration of artistic mediums that has always defined the landscape of New York City.
It draws on the notion that music, dance, visual art and technology can all come together and meet, without predetermining one another,
and therefor , create a new hyperdimensional and multi- sensory instrument.

By letting chance and intuition guide the conversation, Midnight Sessions plays with the idea that theatre can use every element --
gesture, sound, light, darkness and space to speak a language beyond words.

By making the musicians emerge from the surrounding audience I want to blur the lines of who is a performer and who is observer.
This performance is designed to bring people into a heightened state of presence, awaken the senses and invite all into the creative act.

The generative visuals nod to a history of artist collaborating with technology to create projects otherwise thought to be impossible.
I look at the visuals I am designing as an extension of my own brush.

This performance is a leap and continuation; Midnight Muses first public music performance and our first time displaying our generative projections -- yet is still aligned with Midnight Muses tradition of night time communion and artistic ritual. As the performance evolves there will be stillness and crescendo, vulnerability and celebration.

New possibility emerge as the line between art and life, performer and spectator melt away.

In a world inundated with information and advertisement , Midnight Sessions is a space to feel again, fully and slowly.
